Abstract

This experimental study investigates the response of a GI wire mesh enclosed earth-filled C-shaped panel to lateral loads. The outcomes of this investigation can be used to assess the strength and stability of this technology in comparison to conventional rural housing materials like compressed earth blocks, brick masonry, etc. Furthermore, the study aims to analyze the cracking pattern of the wall panel under lateral load. In rural regions, ground story masonry and clay structures are commonly used due to their simplicity of construction and accessibility of materials. These structures are typically constructed using traditional methods, with minimal engineering services required. The failure of such structures during an earthquake is often attributed to poor roof to wall connections, heavy roofing, and corner failures
