Abstract

A replacement for all the ingredients of the concrete making materials determines the future of construction industry to sustain in the market by establishing concrete as a very eco-friendly material. Once concrete becomes a green material it helps in the reduction of global heating and emission of mendacious amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere caused by the cement and concrete manufacturing industries. Such an important paradigm shift that has occurred in the alternative materials technology and research led to the advent of new concrete called Geo Polymer Concrete (GPC). In order to examine the stimulus of the alternative materials in the mechanical characteristics of concrete, a concrete design mix proportion designed to achieve a compressive strength of concrete not less than 30MPa was considered in this study. The standard materials used in the production of Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) was totally replaced by equivalent alternative materials in GPC. Here, cement was replaced by flyash, river sand by manufactured sand, crushed stone aggregates by steel slag aggregates, water by alkaline activator solution.
