Abstract

Background: The pathogenesis of COVID-19 pneumonia encompasses a spectrum of inflammatory cytokines. An essential component of the cytokine storm is interleukin-6 (IL-6). The aim of the work is to trace the relationship between the blood level of IL-6 in hospitalized COVID-19 cases and various clinical and laboratory parameters, CT chest imaging, and the requirement for tocilizumab. Additionally, its predictive validity for the requirement for intensive care unit (ICU) admission, the requirement for mechanical ventilation, the occurrence of complications, and mortality.
