Abstract

For the purpose of treating many illnesses, traditional medicine is based on mangrove plants that are derived from a number of secondary metabolites. The Rhizophora species of mangroves are known to be widespread on tropical waterways. Uncontrollable use of broadspectrum antibiotics has been associated with a rise in the frequency of multidrug resistant bacterial strains and an increased incidence of bacteria that are less susceptible to antibiotic treatment.
