Abstract

The aim of this research was to formulate an Itraconazole mucoadhesive vaginal tablet using a combination of mucoadhesive polymers, including Tamarind, HPMC K15M, Xanthan gum, Gaur gum, and microcrystalline cellulose, in order to achieve a superior therapeutic effect and patient compliance in the treatment of bacterial vaginosis. The formulation offers a sustained-release action with good mucoadhesion because to the inclusion of both natural and synthetic, mucoadhesive and rate-retarding polymers, which helps reduce dosage frequency. Tablets with mucoadhesion were made using the direct compression technique. The incompatibility of medication excipients was investigated using FTIR. The mucoadhesive vaginal tablet's ex-vivo mucoadhesion time, drug content, percent drug release, and swelling index were all assessed. The results of these experiments showed how useful it is to administer localised, regulated antifungal therapy to the vagina. Our study may result in an Itraconazole vaginal tablet formulation that works well against Candida albicans
