Abstract

The aim of this study was to develop and evaluate phytosomal gel of Metformin Hydrochloride to enhance drug entrapment, for sustain the release of drug and to improve the bioavailability of drug. Metformin Hydrochloride (METH) phytosome was formulated with the molar ratio (1:2) of drug and phospholipid by the rehydration dehydration technique. The substantial contact of metformin HCL with phospholipids was completed through Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Then phytosomal gel prepared by pouring the formulation successfully in (PGF1 to PGF4) carbopol 934. Formulation PGF3 is optimized for further studies. The all relevant result of METH phytosome were showed that the percentage entrapment efficiency of formulation was found in 79% to 95%. In vitro release data were exhibited approximately 65% to 95%of drug release from theMetformin Hydrochloride (METH) phytosomal gel by using Franz diffusion technique. Thus it can be concluded from result that the phytosomal gel formulation developed for vaginal delivery of metformin possesses better penetration potential and higher entrapment efficiency
