Background: The German surgeon, Augustus bier was the first to introduce spinal anesthesia over 100 years ago; using himself as a subject, local anesthetic cocaine was injected into the subarachnoid space. In the next morning he suffered from a headache - now widely known as post- dural puncture headache (PDPH).
