Stroke leads to the activation of multiple cell death pathways and affects various distal organs, including the kidney. Thus understanding systemic complications arising in non-neurological origin has implications for treating long-term consequences after stroke. Our recent study showed that apocynin curtails post-stroke brain damage by regulating the early onset of oxidative and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. We collected kidney tissues from rats subjected to Middle Cerebral Artery Occlusion (MCAO) plus treated with apocynin to evaluate stroke-induced stress signaling in the kidney
