Abstract

Millions of people worldwide are afflicted by Parkinson's disease, a kind of progressive brain condition marked by disturbed movements. Symptoms of PD include disproportionate tremors, slowness of movements, rigidity of muscle, and postural instability and non-motor manifestations such as neuropsychiatric comorbidities including anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, orthostatic hypotension, sexual dysfunction, and gastrointestinal issues. Due to the complex pathophysiology, manifestations of depression and anxiety in PD may be misidentified as PD traits and go undetected and untreated, thus posing a significant hurdle for researchers to conquer. The illusive characteristics of these condition may worsen the disease and may lead to therapeutic failure.
