Abstract

The availability of Online CSAM is a significant problem affecting people in India and other countries worldwide. The present article deals with a comparative study of online CSAM data using peer-to-peer (open-source) networks circulating in Indian cyberspace during 2019 and 2021. CSAM files were identified within 7 peer-to-peer file-sharing torrent networks using various keywords for a duration of four months (January-April) in 2019 and (January-April) 2021. A total of 16069 and 17,094 unique IP addresses were discovered to be transferring a large number of CSAM files throughout 28 states and 6 union territories. The number of CSAM files in circulation decreased to 44.4% from 27,00,08,502 in 2019 to 15,01,13,965 in 2021. A local database containing hash values of recognized or reported CSAM files showing Indian children is being developed to combat online CSAM in a more holistic way.
