The reaction of L-ascorbic acid with the dichloroacetic acid in the presence of potassium hydroxide gave new product 3,4,6,7-O,O,O,O- tetrakis(carboxy(chloro)methyl)-L-ascorbic acid (H4L), which was isolated and characterized by 1H,13C-NMR, elemental analysis (CHN), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), UV-visible and Fourier Transform infrared (FTIR) methods.
