SEX DETERMINATION USING CONDYLAR PROCESS WIDTH ON RIGHT SIDE WITH OPG IN INDIAN POPULATION- A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY

Abstract

Introduction: One of the important aspects of Forensic dentistry is the determination of the gender from remained jaws and dentition.Mandibles are used for measurements, as these bones remain largely intact bone with high degree of sexual dimorphic characteristics. Since time immemorial, Condyles has been the area of interest for anthropologists,Which have been explored in our study. Materials and Methods: Study setting- department of Forensic Odontology,Saveetha Dental College Sample collection-department of oral medicine and radiology, Saveetha dental college and hospitals.n=60;30 males,30 females age groups: 31-60yrs Results and Discussion: There is a significant difference between the condylar process width for males and females as t-test was performed. P value=0.0492 (<0.05) Conclusion: According to this study the width of the condylar process of the right side was significantly more for males when compared to females. The study could be performed using different parameters in larger sample groups and different age groups on the condylar process. Although the measurements are distinct between males and females in each population, there is also a difference between measurements among societies.
