Abstract

In the present research work Humic Acid extracted from local lignite coal collected from Thar-Sindh, Pakistan has been used as an adsorbent. Adsorption of iron and copper ions was studied at laboratory scale. The effect of contact time, adsorbent dosage, analyte concentration, pH and temperature were studied at room temperature 298.15 K (25°C). The adsorption models Langmuir and Freundlich were applied on the data, maximum adsorption capacity of copper and iron ions is found to be 5.13 mg/g and 2.66 mg/g respectively. Thermodynamic parameters like ∆G°, ∆H° and ∆S° have also been determined. These values establish that the adsorption process is favorable in nature.
